This project is a collaboration with my very good friend and amazing artist Alesandro Iacopelli. Alesandro has a deep passion for insects, from breeding to meticulous restoration and conservation. This is where Alesandro finds inspiration for his sculptures. He uses very strong materials like stone, rebar and aluminum to create sculptures that despite their massive weight feel light and elegant.
Our collaboration started when Alesandro had an idea for a sculpture unlike anything he had done before. The goal was to create an interactive sculpture that would balance at one point and freely rotate around it. My expertice was needed to make the sculpture interactive. The biggest challenge was to hide all the sensors and microcontroller inside the body of the sculpture.
