Obsession

This project is a collaboration with my very good friend and amazing artist Alessandro Iacopelli. Alessandro has a deep passion for insects, from breeding them to meticulous restoration and conservation, and this is where he finds inspiration for his sculptures. He uses very strong materials like stone, rebar and aluminium to make sculptures that, despite their massive weight, feel light and elegant.

Our collaboration started when Alessandro had an idea for a sculpture unlike anything he had done before: an interactive piece that would balance on one point and rotate freely around it. My expertise was needed to make the sculpture interactive. The biggest challenge was hiding all the sensors and the microcontroller inside the body of the sculpture.
