Plotter

I find flow of information utterly fascinating. From it’s source to its final destination, information is conducted through a multiplicity of mediums, being transformed along the way. The simplest example that illustrates the above is communicating through speech; The initial idea transforms into a sound wave that travels trough space is finally received by the human ear. Consequently, the drum is vibrated, and that produces an electrical signal that can be interpreted by the human brain.

This plotter was a personal exploration, on what i see as digital and mechanical flow of information. For example to plot a simple drawing from the computer the geometries have to become coordinates. Then these coordinates become electrical signals that drive the motors which create mechanical movements that draw our image.

I find it beautiful when I imagine how this information changes so many forms (digital, electrical, mechanical) only to remain intact. What makes this plotter stand out is the way that the mechanical force is transmitted. The “head” that holds the pen is magnetic and so the whole mechanism can be hidden behind a dark piece of glass that acts like the drawing surface. The only thing that is visible to us is the paper and the “head” that magically dances and creates our image.
